COLORS & GARMENTS

Choose rhinestone colors for black and white shirts

Use garment contrast, negative space and outline choices to make your artwork easier to read.

A rhinestone layout can look fantastic on a white editing canvas yet disappear once it's placed on a black or colored shirt. Designing for the garment color helps keep your artwork readable.

1. Start with the shirt color

Decide whether the finished design will be placed on black, white, or a colored blank. That background changes which edges need contrasting stones.

2. For a black shirt, keep intentional dark spaces

A pumpkin or mascot illustration might use orange stones for the main shapes, dark unfilled spaces for the mouth and eyes, and a contrast color where the silhouette otherwise disappears. Don't automatically fill every dark pixel with a black rhinestone.

3. For a white shirt, strengthen light outlines

Very pale or clear stones may appear faint on a white background. Try a deeper border or slightly more saturated color to clarify the shape.

4. Use negative space deliberately

Leaving an area free of stones can create effective details when the shirt itself provides the color. Check that those empty areas are large and intentional enough to remain recognizable.

5. Keep adjacent colors distinguishable

Compare each stone color against the garment and its neighboring stone colors. Avoid using two colors of nearly equal brightness for details that must remain separate.

Production tip

Preview your finished artwork against a background close to your actual garment. Confirm important facial features, text and outlines before exporting.
