TROUBLESHOOTING

Fix gaps, messy outlines and missing details

Diagnose unintended stripes, detached dots, crowded beads and results that do not match your artwork.

Intermediate8 min readFree tutorial

Sometimes a pattern previews with empty horizontal stripes, crowded beads, strange outlines or missing features. The goal is to identify whether the problem comes from the source image, the settings or the export.

Problem: unexpected gaps or empty rows

What to check: Very thin source regions, a narrow color band, spacing constraints or an issue in the current conversion build.

  • Try a thicker source shape or increase finished design dimensions.
  • Compare a single-color version with the multicolor version.
  • Check whether the gap appears in the preview, the exported SVG, or both.
  • If the gap follows a repeated horizontal or vertical pattern, document it as a possible layout defect.

Problem: stones overlap or feel crowded

What to check: Stone size, gap settings and converted edges. Inspect adjacent circles at high zoom, especially around sharp corners.

  • Recheck the target stone size and physical dimensions.
  • Adjust spacing using supported controls in your build.
  • Try a less detailed input image and compare the density.

Problem: outlines have the wrong colors

What to check: Original image edge colors, color grouping and how your garment background affects the appearance of the design.

  • Try an image with a more explicit outline color.
  • Reduce unnecessary shades if your design allows it.
  • Consider using shirt color as negative space instead of filling every dark region.

Problem: facial features disappear

What to check: Whether eyes, mouths, nose details and hairlines are narrower than the chosen stone pitch.

  • Crop closer and enlarge the subject.
  • Thicken critical lines and simplify shadows.
  • Try a clearer, higher-contrast reference or a traced illustration.

Problem: preview is slow or never finishes

What to check: Image dimensions, browser responsiveness and the exact build. Very detailed inputs may require longer processing.

  • Try a smaller, simpler source image as a diagnostic test.
  • Restart the app from its extracted folder, then re-import the image.
  • Record which input causes the issue and whether a basic sample works.
  • If the interface stays stuck, send support your build/version and a description of the steps rather than retrying indefinitely.

What to send support

Useful reports help us fix defects faster. Include as much of this checklist as you're comfortable sharing:

  • Exact BrightBench build or version, if visible
  • Computer operating system and browser
  • Type of image (photo, clipart, SVG, PNG), approximate size and transparency
  • Stone size, spacing and important settings
  • What you expected versus what appeared
  • Optional screenshot, export sample or source image (only with your permission)
Don't upload private images publicly.

Share only what you're comfortable sending through Etsy support. You can describe the issue without providing the original photo.
